China Feb gas output retreats from Jan's record high

    China's domestic natural gas production in February fell to 12.5 billion cubic feet per day from a record high level of 14.4 bcf/d in January, government data showed on Wednesday.

    The comparison of monthly data in th first two months of each year are often distorted by the Chinese New Year, which often falls in January in one year and February in another, and during which economic activity slows.

    Production in the first two months combined were still 5.5 percent higher than a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

    Domestic production accounts for about 70% of China's gas consumption while imports  make up for the rest.
