China as expected announced a cut on citygate gas price for incremental gas consumption and an increase on the price for basic consumption from April 1, bringing a two-tiered pricing system into an unified one. The scale of the change was in line with forecast made by CNGIA that saw a price cut of 13 percent for incremental gas and a price hike of 1 percent for basic consumption.

A commentary, which included  part of the forecast , as well as suggestions on how to push forward gas industry reform, and written by CNGIA Vice Chairman, was carried in the China Energy News on March 2, an energy industry newspaper  sponsored by the People's Daily, the official mouthpiece of the ruling Chinese Communist Party.  The comment was repeatedly reposted in some industry and government websites and leading to a new wave of discussion on gas market liberalization.
